AT&T Pitches In to Pitch Out Trash

Company Increases Support for the Annual Cleanup Event

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, May 5, 2008 - AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) today announced that all AT&T-owned retail stores in Anchorage will serve as trash bag pick-up locations for the public. AT&T is continuing its support of the Anchorage Chamber Citywide Cleanup Week.

"Respecting the environment is a critical ingredient of our social responsibility, and we are committed to being good stewards in the community," said Mike Felix, president of AT&T Alascom. "It seems that everyone in Anchorage looks forward to helping spruce up the roads and parks this time of year in preparation for summer, and our employees are no exception."

For one week every spring, Anchorage residents, schools, businesses and organizations take to the streets with orange bags to remove trash from local roads, neighborhoods and parks.

"When everyone pitches in, we all win," said Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich. "Participating in cleanup week instills a sense of pride in people for our beautiful city, and seeing the bright-orange trash bags alongside the roads gets people motivated to help more." This year's cleanup week will be held May 3 - 10, and businesses are encouraged to spend Friday, May 9, ridding Anchorage of trash and debris. The day will be capped with the Clean Sweep Celebration at Delaney Park Strip.

AT&T is adding flavor to the Clean Sweep Celebration by participating as a team in the 'trash triathlon' and by featuring its exclusive Cell Phones for Soldiers (CPFS) recycling bin during the event.

"We want to take this citywide effort one step further by encouraging residents to recycle their old mobile phones and accessories instead of throwing them away," said Patrick Fraser, director of Sales for AT&T's wireless unit in Alaska. With the proceeds from recycling, Cell Phones for Soldiers buys prepaid phone cards for military families. AT&T has donated more than $4 million worth of prepaid phone cards to CPFS since 2006.

AT&T has participated in the citywide cleanup efforts for more than 10 years, primarily focusing its employee-based volunteer efforts in the Government Hill area.
