"Anchorage is proud to host the 2008 Alaska state high school basketball championships," said Mayor Mark Begich. "We all know that basketball is wildly popular with youth and families throughout the state, and it is an honor to have the high school championship games played here." Mike Felix, president of AT&T Alascom, is honorary chairman of this year's tournament. "We're excited that AT&T will offer live coverage of the Alaska state high school basketball championships," Felix said. The webcast is made possible through a relationship with the Alaska School Activities Association (ASAA). AT&T has long been an enthusiastic supporter of ASAA because of its generous contributions to help support youth athletics in Alaska. AT&T began hosting live Web coverage of significant community events in 2007, when it broadcast high school graduations, the Alaska state high school football and hockey championships and a military welcome-home ceremony. In addition to streaming the basketball games live, AT&T will keep a link to the coverage active on its Web site after the championship games are over.
