AT&T Alascom Sports Center Under Construction in the Valley
ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Aug. 24, 2007 - AT&T Alascom, a subsidiary of AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T), today announced that it is the official sponsor of a new $8 million sports facility that is being built in the Mat-Su Valley. The 60,000-square-foot AT&T Alascom Sports Center will have court space available for rent by community groups. For example, the Valley Youth Basketball Association plans to use the facility for its 2008 season. The new sports center will also be a private athletic club, complete with an indoor track, weight-training room, cardio machines, locker rooms, saunas, an aerobics room and five basketball courts that can double as volleyball courts. The center, which will be able to seat 3,000 spectators, is scheduled to open Jan. 1, 2008, and will be located at the intersection of the Palmer-Wasilla Highway and Double B Street. "We're grateful to AT&T for helping to make this center a reality," said Scott Johannes, managing member of Double B LLC, the firm building the center. "The time is right for this project. It's something that we've needed in the Valley for a long time. This is one of the fastest-growing regions in the entire country, and there is great demand for sports and recreational facilities. The AT&T Alascom Sports Center will be versatile enough to accommodate a lot of different needs." "This is exciting news for the Valley, and we're proud to be a part of it," said Mike Felix, president, AT&T Alascom. "Improved facilities will help local sports organizations, coaches, kids and adults all enjoy a healthy lifestyle, and that's something we're more than happy to support." AT&T actively supports unique and compelling events and venues that benefit education, the arts, culture and local charities. AT&T sponsorships help drive brand awareness, preference and selection in communities across America and around the world. AT&T offers a variety of sports content on its AT&T blue room Web site.
