2006 Inuit Circumpolar Conference convening in Barrow
AT&T Alascom to provide in-kind services

ANCHORAGE, AK (July 10, 2006) - AT&T Alascom will provide an in-kind donation of high-speed internet access to facilitate a webcast of the 2006 Inuit Circumpolar Conference in Barrow July 10-14, and send representatives to sessions dealing with healthcare, education and training.

"The theme of this year's assembly, 'Unity Within Diversity', reflects the values of AT&T Alascom," said President Mike Felix. "We believe in the power of conferences such as this, which bring leaders from different countries and cultures together to find common solutions to challenges that affect all of our circumpolar nations. We, at AT&T Alascom look forward to playing a role in these solutions, and to providing the communications technology needed for research and development of our collective natural resources in a culturally-sensitive and environmentally responsible manner."

The ICC was founded in 1977 as a way to unite Inuit leaders in Alaska, Canada, Greenland and Russia to address common concerns and preserve Inuit cultural heritage. The first ICC assembly was held in 1980 and gatherings are now held once every four years.

This year's agenda includes sessions on a variety of topics, including Arctic climate change, whaling, resource development, healthy lifestyles and education.
